Act Three Scene Three |
Act Three - Scene Three Chorus Beirut is burning, Beirut is blazing All kinds of bombs are shelling Beirut As birds from their nests They fly to strike Beirut A bomb ran out of target To kill seventy five innocent citizens In a refuge shelter in Burge Al Barajneh in Beirut Beirut is burning , Beirut is blazing All kinds of bombs are shelling Beirut The world will shake, of course will shake Manifestations will overwhelm The streets of the world The world will stand out of breath To see buildings collapse To see the burnings everywhere To hear cries for help God help the citizens of Beirut Entrapped by treason, By resistance But no assistance No neighbouring city nor a town Came to rescue Beirut No country denounced, the bombardment Of Beirut Left alone in the fever of battles Seventy days Palestinians resisted The developed military arms on Beirut Beirut is paying the cost dearly To strike the resistance in Beirut To bend the Arab will in Beirut (the brother of Jamilah came to convince her to leave Beirut but she refused) Jamilah When airplanes dip over us as hawks When our skies spout fire When on earth blood flows When buildings succumb in mire To bury corpses still alive When the wind carries Death lament every where When houses catch fire With nobody to rescue Women and children Fling their souls From windows or balconies That their death be sudden without agony They prefer not to be than be maimed I can't leave my people here to migrate Let me die in my bed If it was my bitter fate I cling to my people besieged Without water, without electricity Patiently resisting The powers of gloom Incautious of danger Why God should sinners prosper? |
