Act Three - Scene Six

(Enters Ahmad)

Ahmad

Palestinians withdrew from Beirut to the last man. Did you not see the scene on the TV?

Jamilah

No, electricity is still cut off

(Ahmad told them what happened)

Ahmad

In the next time I'll bring with me a video tape recording the scene. Things will change. It's now the role of the Lebanese to defend their Capital and to force the aggressive power to withdraw. (He leaves)

A villager

Do you hear, do you hear

Allah akbar, Allah akbar

Coming from the mosques?

His neighbor

It's not time for prayer

It's midnight to sleep when tired

Villager

It's forewarning from minarets' spires

That Israeli tanks will enter and fight

Women's chorus

Women to our only arm

Let us defend our homes

And slam

The faces of those shameless ones

Who slay citizens in their beds

Let every woman be another Khawlah

To save our children and men

Let our kitchens' knifes

Be her sharp sword.

To the tanks women, don't loose any moment

It's our liberty, it's our destiny

(shots on the minarets are heard to silence the loudspeakers)

But Allah akbar ,Allah akbar

Entered the houses and huts

Let the enemy shiver

In the doomsday of our kitchens' arms

Let him quiver

(Tanks withdrew leaving mines. Confused voices are heard when one mine exploded killing men of resistance coming back to their village)

(Enters Ahmad)

Ah Jamilah

Ahmad

Diana hurry

I brought you a wrap to veil

Leave at once this place

In this disorder, you can't be safe

Diana (alarmed)

Where I might go?

Ahmad

To the French embassy

We have managed that you stay

While a helicopter comes

To your refuge in Paris

I myself shall carry you there (to Jamilah)

I shall return to carry you too

To a safer place

Jamilah

I shall not leave this place

I'm here safe

Ahmad

I brought you a videotape

About the moving away

Of the Palestinian combatants from Beirut

Perhaps I shall not come back soon

For I have self obligation to a group

To fight the enemy out of Lebanon

(Diana enters, embraces Jamilah, saying  fare well and goes with Ahmad)
